We welcome anyone interested in learning more about our music programs. Our mission is to praise God through prayer and song and to promote the full, conscious and active participation of all in our liturgical celebrations. We have choirs for various age groups that sing a broad range of music styles from chant to traditional hymns to contemporary works. Come share your love of God through song with us! Our Music Director is Mary Dziepak. She can be reached at the church office at 919-772-5524 or by office email at smgmusic@stmarygarner.org. The Adult Choir leads music at the 10 AM Sunday Mass from September through Pentecost. We rehearse Tuesday evenings from 7 PM to 9 PM in the choir loft. Cantors serve on a rotating schedule at the invitation of the director. Cantors are required to participate in the Adult Choir, and possess a desire to lead and love the people with a heart filled to praise God. Cantors must be willing to spend additional time practicing their music in order to lead the people with confidence. Bel Canto is for children in grades five through eight. This group will sign more traditional music appropriate to the abilities of older children than Junior Choir. We will learn music in languages other than English, including Latin, the language of the Church. Bel Canto rehearses every other Wednesday from 6:15-6:45 PM in the church and will sing at Christmas and Easter Masses. Junior Choir is for children in grades one through six. Music taught (in a wide variety of styles) will reinforce the scripture readings to be read when they sing. This group will begin to learn good vocal habits while learning age appropriate music to sing music before the 10 AM Mass once a month. We rehearse on Wednesdays from 6:50 PM to 7:30 PM in the church. The Junior Choir will also sing at Christmas and Easter. Praise Makers is for children ages 3 through Kindergarten. Here, the little ones begin to hear Bible stories, learn to pray, take tours of the church, sing, and make craft projects relating to what they are taught each week. We meet every other Wednesday from 6 PM to 6:45 PM in St. Joseph Hall. We will sing at Christmas and Easter in church. This is a fun way to introduce your child to their faith in a way they can understand and participate. Spanish Choir: For information about the choir that provides music and song at the Misa en Español, please Jóse Jesús Acevedo at 919-649-1051.
